CROSS II project aims at providing to the European and national stakeholders of the CAP validated algorithms, products, workflows and best practices for agriculture monitoring relevant for the management of the CAP. The project will pay particular attention to provide evidence how Sentinel derived information can support the modernization and simplification of the CAP in the post 2020 timeframe.

Cyprus University of Technology (CUT) is a public university founded in Limassol in 2003 and consists of six faculties. The Eratosthenes Research Centre is a continuation of the Remote Sensing and Geo-Environment Research Laboratory (RSGE-Lab), which was formed in 2007 (http://cyprusremotesensing.com/) and is the most productive research group in securing external funding. In 2013, the RSGE-Lab was approved through a Ministerial Decision from the Government of Cyprus as the Eratosthenes Research Centre (ERC). The ERC’s main research goal is the advanced understanding of Earth system sciences using remote sensing methods and engineering techniques. The mission of the ERC is to conduct both basic and applied research towards improved understanding, management, and monitoring of natural resources and infrastructures and to offer expert services and products of excellent quality in line with the latest developments in remote sensing and related geospatial technologies. The ERC has participated in more than 55 projects funded by H2020, FP7, FP6, INTERREG, ECHO, LIFE+, MED, MARIE-CURIE (ITN), EUREKA, ERASMUS+, ESA, Cyprus Research Promotion Foundation (CRPF), etc. CROSS II CUT-ESA-0022020 Page 15 of 25 Cyprus University of Technology (http://cyprusremotesensing.com/research-grants/). The ERC is a member of several networks such as EARSeL, EARLINET, ACTRIS, AERONET (NASA), FABSPACE, COPERNICUS ACADEMY, MEDRIN and has strong links with organizations such as ESA, DLR, NASA and GEO. Further, ERC is a member of the CYPRUS DIGITAL INNOVATION HUB (http://s3platform.jrc.ec.europa.eu/digitalinnovation-hubs-tool/-/dih/1459/view) and in this perspective it has access to the whole DIH ecosystem.CUT is an FPA Copernicus nominated member by the Ministry of Transport and has recently secured funding of €15mil for a H2020 Teaming project, EXCELSIOR (EXcellence Research Centre for Earth SurveiLlance and Space-Based MonItoring Of the EnviRonment).

Cyprus Agricultural Payments Organization (CAPO) was established under Council Regulation (EC). The organization has 226 employees and two officials, the Commissioner and the Assistant Commissioner. The head of CAPO is the Commissioner of Agricultural Payments, who was appointed by the Council of Ministers, and is aided in his work by the Assistant Commissioner. CAPO’s central offices are in Nicosia, but the Organisation is located at 5 District Offices (Nicosia, Larnaca, Limassol, Paralimni and Paphos). CAPO receives aid applications from Cypriot farmers concerning area related schemes based on agricultural activity. It maintains a GlS database of the eligible crop parcels andtheireligibility is checked by photointerpretation through VHR satellite images, remote sensing and by on-the-spot controls using GPS. The eligibility criteria are established through EU regulations. Novatex Solutions was established in 1999 in Cyprus by a team of highly motivated and enthusiastic engineers. They have been actively involved in applied research for more than 14 years either as a coordinator, a partner, or consultant, in projects funded by national or EU funds, offering system integration solutions to the industry. Projects involved automated image processing for use in agriculture sectors, car drive assist systems using automated image processing, robot navigation, mapping of data using GIS technologies and data analysis.

Novatex sponsors the European Robotics week in Cyprus since 2013 and its CEO is the coordinator of this event. This enabled NOVATEX to further involve in European project proposals related to data acquisition, processing and analysis. Today, it is operating in the fields of ICT services: by providing Web Hosting / VPS / Dedicated Cloud. These services enable the company to utilise these services for various projects for real time data processing and storage, using mainly open source software. The servers operated by NOVATEX are in Cyprus, Germany, France and USA and they are maintained 365/24 for optimum performance. Data Acquisition Systems – Distributors / System integration for products and services to customers ranging from Industry to Universities to research institutions. IOT Smart Devices and systems: Development of Low power devices intended for smart applications including smart cities and smart agriculture – We have already developed out own prototypes and these are on the way to be used in pilot studies (with mapping using GIS technologies) in Cyprus and collaboration with local authorities; Robotics: by providing hardware and advice to students, Academia and research.
